The Players' Guild of Leonia (PGL) - 91 Years Young and We're Just Getting Started


Civil War Drill Hall The Players' Guild of Leonia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-equity community theatre group.

Founded in 1919, The Players' Guild of Leonia is the resident acting company of the Civil War Drill Hall Theatre (circa 1859). Located in southeast Bergen County, PGL is one of New Jersey's oldest continuing community theatre groups.

We offer musicals, comedies, classic and contemporary dramas, children's theatre, workshops and special events, all at affordable prices. Our 91st season continues with Murder at Cafe Noir Written by David Landau with music and lyrics by Nikki Stern. Directed by Angela Cozzi. - Sept. 24th thru Oct. 10th.

Five minutes from the George Washington Bridge and a short bus ride from Manhattan, the historic Civil War Drill Hall Theatre is located on Grand Avenue in the borough of Leonia, surrounded by the towns of Englewood, Fort Lee, Palisades Park and Teaneck, New Jersey.


What's New

THE PLAYERS’ GUILD OF LEONIA PRESENTS: PERFORMANCE WORSHOPS, Directed by Gina Masland

The upcoming Performance Workshops are intended for people who love and want to sing! It's also geared for singers who want to gain more experience, not just in "hitting the notes" but in the art of performance. Topics to be covered include: vocal techniques, group and solo singing, interpretations and arrangements, supportive risk-taking, exploring diverse styles, microphone techniques, and working with an accompanist. There are two different workshops, each with ten one-hour classes on Saturdays. There will be a Final Performance for participants who want to sing solo or in groups.

Workshop #1, "FALLing!" will have ten sessions on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to noon. This class is for beginners and intermediate level singers. September: 11th, 25th. October: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th; November 6th, 13th, 20th.

Workshop #2, "FALLing!" (advanced) This workshop will also have ten sessions and is intended for professional singers or singers who have sung a leading role in a production. Saturdays, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Audition, CD/DVD required. September: 11th, 25th; October: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th;November 6th, 13th, 20th.

The classes will take place at the Leonia Drill Hall, 130 Grand Ave., Leonia, NJ 07605.

Workshop #1 will have a Final Recital in the Leonia Drill Hall on Saturday, November 20th, at 3:00 p.m. Admission is free of charge.

Workshop #2 will have a Concert Showcase in the Leonia Drill Hall on Saturday, November 20th, at 8:00 p.m. Admission will be $15.00 and will be a fundraiser benefitting the Players Guild of Leonia.

The cost of EACH workshop is $120 (for members of the Players’ Guild of Leonia) or $175 (for nonmembers).
